Changes…
Changes have been happening, both at home and online…
Online the changes will hopefully not be noticeable, as Ken and Jerry (dot) com has moved from it’s original home on A Small Orange – a great web hosting company, well worth it if you’re looking to host your own site. During Ken’s period “between successes” he’s been dabbling with creating a web server to run from home, and now has one up an running. While there were some teething problems, it looks like the whole domain (web and mail services) seem to be functioning properly. The downside to this will be any of the pitfalls of a residential service (from power outages, to issues with our DSL service – which have been very few, compared to our old cable broadband.)
The other big change, occurring the same day, was that we have a new water heater. The old one started to leak – luckily a small leak, but a leak all the same. The worse part of the old unit was that it was seated on a wooden base, which was starting to sag from the leaking (really, who puts a water heater on – essentially – a wooden box with no central support!) So the plumber arrived between 4:30 and 5:00 PM, assessed the issue, and – with Jerry’s OK – proceeded to remove the old unit and install the replacement. With the old unit out, the opportunity to not only remove the old base (to be replaced with a metal stand) presented itself, but the opportunity for Jerry to finish laying down the race-deck in that corner of the garage. There was only one replacement part that the plumber did not have in his van, but Ken ran off to the hardware store to procure so that the job could be done all at one time. The job was done close to 9:00 PM – at which time Ken and Jerry went out for dinner (having not eaten since around 1:00 PM or so…) to allow the tank to heat up it’s first tank of hot water – which was very hot…
