Day three of our Houston trip, again from our temporary base in Boerne, had us in San Antonio for the bulk of the day…
Day two of our Houston trip has in in Boerne (pronounced Bernie) with Jerry’s mom and step-dad. But between the big travel day yesterday, and our cold situation, we had a major lie-in this morning…
Today we left for Houston – and lived to tell the tale…
Yesterday we voted. Yes, that’s right, we voted early – but since this isn’t Chicago, it won’t be often. The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters office is just around the corner from my office, so Jerry came over for lunch and a vote. We had lunch at the California Cafe, which is the cafeteria at the Registrar’s office (much like we did when we got our Marriage License.) Then we voted, which involved taking a number – because we weren’t the only ones with this idea – and then waiting a bit. Numbers were called in chunks of five, to be herded into line to get your ballots and vote.
The thing about it that we didn’t like was that the process of being issued an absentee/vote by mail packet, filling it out there and dropping it off in the box. Last time I voted early, it was like a regular polling station. In fact, that time they had the electronic booth that also printed out a receipt – nifty! If you’re the teeniest bit paranoid about absentee voting, then you’re not going to be happy.
Since Jerry has heard the horror story of absentee ballots not being counted unless they would actually make a difference (an urban legend, apparently purported by some radio talk show host) I thought I’d post this picture I found on the web. Since there is no punctuation involved, I’ll let you decipher it’s meaning…
A “No” vote on CA Proposition 8 will annul no marriages.
A “Yes” vote on CA Proposition 8 will annul over 10,000 marriages (many with kids.)
Which vote is REALLY “protecting marriage”?
(NOTE: Each and every single vote WILL count. There is no “electoral college” for referendums.)
re-posted from KPRoche’s LiveJournal. Feel free to repost it as you like.
I just thought about this. The “Yes on 8” campaign claims that if this proposition passes, that the institution of marriage will be saved. They are wrong, and here’s why.
Just not the old comments themselves…
Welcome to the new and (hopefully) improved Ken and Jerry (dot) Com website. We’ve moved away from Geeklog to Joomla for our site structure, and it’s been an interesting ride. There will be broken links for the time being, please let us know if you find any. Also expect changes as we get used to the new system.
Hope you like the changes. Any questions, please drop us a line.
It has taken a while, but the final accounts of our honeymoon to the United Kingdom have finally been posted – all back dated to each of the actual days. So enjoy!
Someone once said that “Hell was like going on holiday with a group of Germans” or was that death… Whichever way, they were wrong. Hell (and indeed death) must be like going through the various layers of airport security… (more…)
